早康熙 A Transitional Wucai Storage Jar

A late transitional wucai short neck baluster form storage jar decorated with a panoramic scene of court ladies in pursuit of various leisure activities along a garden path beneath a border of intertwining lotus tendrils and flowers and a second border of a zigzag herringbone pattern. On the short stout neck are alternately colored upright leaves. The base is left unglazed. The wucai (five color) palette began in the Ming period and under the Kangxi reign the green enamel became the more dominant color evolving into a new decorative palette known as Kangxi wucai or famille verte in the west.
