光緒 Guangxu Blue Glazed Bottle Vase (Shangping)

A blue glazed bottle vase, the globular body with raised rib surmounted by a waisted neck with flared rim. The form is known as an 'awards vase' (shangping), first made during the Yongzheng period and continued to be produced throughout the Qing dynasty becoming extremely popular during the Guangxu reign. Written in black under the blue glaze is the six character kaishu mark and period of the Guangxu emperor.

Provenance:  Private collection, Chicago; Vermeer & Griggs Collection No. 177
Condition: The glaze discolored in some places on the body surface from something splashed on it.
