康熙 Kangxi Susancai Rouleau Vase

A rouleau vase, the form evolved from the rolwagen shape, decorated in the susancai palette with the enamels applied directly to the biscuit body. The vase is painted with a typical Kangxi motif, a pheasant on a stylized rock structure from which issues blossoming prunus, magnolia branches and other blooming flora around which flutter what appear to be magpies upon a pale café au lait ground. The neck painted with borders of linked ruyi heads and fretwork framing the protruding bowstring band beneath the galleried rim. The interior and base covered in a clear glaze with typical minute pig bristle burst glaze bubbles present.
清代 Qing Dynasty, 康熙 Kangxi Period (1662-1722)
Height:  17" (43.2cm)
Condition: Excellent, no chips, cracks or restoration. Slight wear to the raised white enamel on the magnolia flowers.
