康熙 Kangxi Susancai Rouleau Vase
A rouleau vase, the
form evolved from the rolwagen shape, decorated in the susancai palette
with the enamels applied directly to the biscuit body. The vase is painted
with a typical Kangxi motif, a pheasant on a stylized rock structure from which issues
blossoming prunus, magnolia branches and other blooming flora around
which flutter what appear to be magpies upon a pale
café au lait ground. The neck
painted with borders of linked ruyi heads and fretwork framing the protruding
bowstring band beneath the galleried rim. The interior and base covered in
a clear glaze with typical minute pig bristle burst glaze bubbles present. |
