道光 Daoguang Twin Iron Red Bat Form Bowl

A finely potted bowl of unusual form modeled as two opposing bats with outstretched wings painted in iron red enamel (tie hong or fan hong) with gilt details on a blue wave ground. The interior and bottom are painted with a "European green" enamel. On the base in zhuanshu script enclosed within a double line square border in iron red is the seal mark and period of the Daoguang Emperor.
清代 Qing Dynasty, 道光 Daoguang Period (1821-1850)

Provenance: Vermeer & Griggs Collection No. 679
Condition: Excellent, there is evidence of a firing crack in the well of the bowl and showing on the bottom repaired at the time of manufacture as it is beneath the enameled glaze.
