正德 Zhengde Blue Saucer with Relief Biscuit Decoration

A very rare saucer dish covered in a deep cobalt blue glaze with rim left white and decorated with relief biscuit decoration. Two striding five clawed dragons appear on the exterior of the dish with the four character underglaze blue kaishu mark of the 正德帝 Zhengde Emperor reserved within a white rectangular cartouche beneath the rim. A further biscuit dragon is centered in the well of the dish amidst flames and clouds. The base and foot-rim left unglazed.

Provenance:  Vermeer & Griggs Collection No. 515
Condition:  Restored glaze abrasions and a small hairline crack at rim.
