萬曆 Wanli Imperial Yellow Bowl

A finely potted late Ming bowl with steeply rounded sides and everted rim, raised on a gently tapered foot. The interior and exterior applied with a translucent pale yellow glaze pooling at the foot to brownish tones and fired to a glossy finish leaving the base glazed white. The reverse of the bowl shows an area of mottled brownish tone and a spot of iron brown on the lip. On the base is written in kaishu script in underglaze blue within concentric circles, the mark and period of the Wanli Emperor.

Provenance:  Vermeer & Griggs Collection No. 501
Condition:  Excellent, minor surface wear to the glaze.
