Pair of 康熙 Kangxi Aubergine Temple (General's) Jars

A fine and rare pair of temple jars sometimes referred to as "General's" jars due to the hat shaped covers resembling those worn by the military. The jars of baluster form with sides that rise gracefully to the broad shoulder to a wide mouth rim surmounted by flanged dome shaped covers with pointed knobs. The bodies and lids covered in a qiepi zi, deep aubergine-eggplant skin purple, glaze slightly lighter in tone just below the rims of both jars. The base of one jar is unglazed with aubergine glaze that has run under the kiln supports evident while the other in addition has three distinct areas of white glaze.
