康熙 Kangxi Powder Blue Cachepot (Flower Pot)
A powder blue glazed cachepot (flower pot), the sides
rising steeply from the foot to a ridged mouth rim below which a bow-string
ribbed band encircles
the pot. The interior, rim and base are glazed white and the body is
covered in a fine
powder blue glaze. The glaze originated in the Ming Dynasty, Xuande
Period, and was called 'sprinkled blue' and today only a few examples survive.
The glaze was resurrected and the technique perfected during the Kangxi Period.
The powdery blue pigment being blown on the wet surface of the clear glaze
through a bamboo tube covered with gauze, hence the name powder blue, also known
as soufflé blue glaze and covered with a clear glaze. Other glazes
utilizing the same technique are robin's egg blue, iron rust and teadust. |
