Pair of 康熙 Kangxi Aubergine Bronze Form Vases
An extremely rare pair of massive bronze form yen yen vases
covered in a rich deep qiepi zi (aubergine-eggplant skin purple) glaze. The
central section of the vase flares outward from the tall waisted splayed foot to
slightly inclined rounded shoulder and is carved in relief with a ferocious
dragon amidst flames in pursuit of a flaming pearl bracketed by boss applied
borders. On the tall splayed foot are carved pendant ruyi form foliate
edged plantain leaves and on the widely flared galleried trumpet neck the design
is repeated in upright position. The bottoms and interior of the vases and
wide foot-rims are left unglazed showing compact paste with some areas of
burning. |
