康熙 Kangxi Aubergine Dragon Saucer Dish

A large Imperial saucer dish with rounded flaring sides raised on a high ring foot covered entirely in a deep manganese-purple known as qiepi zi (aubergine-eggplant skin purple) glaze draining away from the rim to a paler violet hue. On the exterior four striding Ming-style four clawed dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl amongst flames and clouds are incised beneath the glaze. In the center of the dish is a single four clawed Ming-style dragon encircled by flames and ruyi head shaped clouds in pursuit of the flaming pearl further encircled by a double line border. The foot rim partially covered in glaze shows five spur marks where the dish rested on supports during firing.
清代 Qing Dynasty, 康熙 Kangxi Period (1662-1722)
Diameter: 9 7/8 " (25.1cm)
Condition:  Scratches apparent on the surface of the glaze in the interior conducive to use.
