光緒 Guangxu Blue Glazed Mallet (Yaolingping) Vase

 

A rare and unusual formed mallet vase (yaolingping), the bell-shaped body rising to a slender neck surmounted by an elongated garlic shaped mouth. The entire vase is covered inside and out, except for the mouth-rim and foot in a deep blue glaze. Written in black  under the blue glaze is the six character kaishu mark and period of the Guangxu emperor.
清代 Qing Dynasty, 光緒 Guangxu Period (1875-1908)

Provenance:  Vermeer & Griggs Collection No. 279
Condition: Restored abrasion on the glaze at outer edge of the garlic mouth.
