乾隆 An 18th Century Ge-Type Crackled Plate
A large shallow heavily potted plate with up-turned sides
raised on a ring foot that has been dressed with an iron brown wash. The
dish is covered in a jinsi tiexian ('golden thread and iron
wire') crackled Geyao
type glaze. On
the recessed base are seven iron spur marks imitating the support marks seen on
宋
Song Ge wares. Eighteenth century Geyao in
imitation of
宋
Song Ge wares was produced in varied shapes mostly based on
archaic bronze forms. It was
immensely popular and was particularly associated with the Qianlong Imperial
kiln. The Imperial reign mark was deliberately omitted on dishes of the
Qianlong Ge-type wares. The Qianlong Emperor's love for all things archaic
led to the re-creation of many of the old glazes and forms produced in the past. |
