光緒 Guangxu Large Guan-Type Crackled Brushwasher
A large heavily potted shallow brushwasher with up-turned rounded sides
raised on a ring foot, the rim dressed with an iron brown wash which mimics an
actual copper band that was sometimes used on archaic pieces. The
brushwasher is covered in a pale grey Guanyao-type glaze with widely spaced iron wire crackles,
smaller finer crackle on the interior. Guan wares of both the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries in imitation of
宋代 Song Guan wares was produced in varied shapes mostly based on
archaic bronze forms. It was immensely popular and was particularly associated with the Qianlong Imperial
kiln. The Qianlong Emperor's love for all things archaic
led to the re-creation of many of the old glazes and forms produced in the past. |
