康熙 Kangxi
Famille Verte Birds & Flowers Dish

A large 17th C 康熙 Kangxi dish decorated with famille verte enamels with a scene of a pond with two black birds, one bathing and the other sitting on stylized rocks smoothing its feathers while a  blue kingfisher bird is perched on a wheat stalk, its weight bending the stalk over the water above the other two. Issuing from the bank are chrysanthemums and arching over the pond are blossoming peonies and wheat germ. Dragon flies hover amongst the flowers. The reverse decorated with opposing landscape paintings. A lotus flower mark (one of the Eight Buddhist Emblems/babao) enclosed by concentric circles is painted in underglaze blue on the base. A nearly identical dish from the Ernest Grandidier Collection can be seen in the Guimet Museum. A pair of dishes with this pattern also sold at Christie's Amsterdam, 03 May 2005, Lot 251.
清代 Qing Dynasty, 康熙 Kangxi Period (1662-1722)
 Diameter:  13 1/2" (34.3cm)
Condition: Excellent with usual glaze frits on rim edge.
