康熙 Kangxi Famille Verte Quadrilateral Vase
A fine famille verte quadrilateral vase of square tapered
section surmounted by a cylindrical flared neck. Each side of the body
is painted
with narrative scenes from the historical novel and monumental tale, Three
Kingdoms, attributed to Luo Guanzhong, of warriors on horseback and landscape panoramas enclosed by single
black line border on a pale green
ground applied to the biscuit and covered with a clear glaze. On the shoulder of the vase at each corner
is an aubergine peach with an auspicious emblem. Between the peaches is a peony flower
upon a dark
green ground of swastika diaper pattern. The cylindrical neck rises from
an aubergine linked ruyi shaped cloud border with scenes of an official seated
at a desk. The mark on the base is typical of the early Kangxi period used
prior to the allowance of an Imperial reign mark in this case two Buddhist
emblems, the artemisia leaf and beribboned sacred scroll. |
