康熙 Kangxi Famille Verte Rouleau Vase (Bangchuiping)


Rouleau Vase (Bangchuiping) with aubergine dragon panel.

A magnificent and unusual large famille verte rouleau vase (Bangchuiping) also known as a club vase. The body decorated with a ground of deep green swirling water rising from turbulent frothy waves at the base. The water is strewn with prunus flowers, auspicious emblems and the horses of Mu Wang floating upon it. Superimposed are cartouche panels of writhing five clawed Imperial dragons also on a swirling wave motif of a lighter shade of green. On the shoulder are two cartouches with a carp leaping from the water. On the neck of the vase a further cartouche of dragons appears beneath a galleried rim painted with a zig-zag border. The base is covered in a clear glaze with the foot rim exposed showing the fine and compact paste. The vase dates to the last quarter of the 17th C during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor.
