Large 康熙 Kangxi Famille Verte Baluster Vase
A massive heavily potted famille verte baluster shaped vase
raised on a stepped foot decorated with squared lozenges depicting alternating
floral and bird displays and the '100 antiques' motif against a diaper pattern ground. On
the shoulder is a diapered border with four lozenges depicting four of eight
Buddhist emblems. On the interior of the widely flaring mouth are four
more emblems. The base of the vase is glazed white and the foot rim is
unglazed revealing the biscuit. The use of overglazed cobalt blue pigment on this vase is
probably an early attempt as it has burned black in many places allowing the
probable dating of the vase to the early years of the reign. |
