Large 康熙 Kangxi Famille Verte Fish Bowl

A large heavily potted famille verte fish bowl of ovoid shape, the steeply rounded sides rise to a rolled mouth rim. The body decorated with scenic panels of various scenes from the "Romance of the Western Chamber" also known as "The Story of the Western Wing", an opera written by Wang Shifu in the 13th C, revived in popularity in the 17th C. The base and foot rim are left unglazed.

Condition:  Y shaped surface firing crack in base. Areas of fritted enamel losses. This is to be expected particularly on actual utilitarian objects due to the instability of Kangxi period enamels.
