康熙 Kangxi Blue & White "Ladies & Children" Plate

A large and superbly painted 17th C Chinese export blue and white plate decorated with a scene depicting two young ladies in conversation while two children play. Four quatrefoil cartouches of peach blossoms are reserved on a brocade-diaper border on the broad rim. On the reverse are four beribboned mirrors, an auspicious symbol of good fortune, one of the 'eight precious things' or 'eight treasures' (babao). On the base are concentric circles in underglaze blue. Reign marks on export pieces are unusual and during the early 康熙 Kangxi period empty rings were common-place.
