康熙 Kangxi Rouge de Fer Barbed Saucer Dish
A late 17th C saucer dish, the cavetto barbed edged and
molded as flower petals, a decorative motif quite popular at this time, painted
with underglaze blue pomegranate shaped cartouche enclosing alternating iron red and
gilt highlighted floral sprays
and a falcon on a perch beneath a twisted rope border. In the well of the
dish, drawn in varying degrees of iron red with gilt highlights encircled by double underglaze blue
lines, a central panel depicting characters in a scene from the novel, The
Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The reverse undecorated. This design is also known in
blue and white decor. |
