康熙 Kangxi Doucai Pear Shaped Dragon Vase (Dan Ping)

An extremely rare and elegantly potted pear shaped vase with rounded sides rising gently to a tall neck with lipped rim raised on a ring foot. The body painted in doucai enamels with a single Ming style four clawed dragon pursuing a flaming pearl above a border encircling the base of a turbulent sea with foaming waves. The base is encircled by a single underglaze blue line border and at the rim a double underglaze blue line border, both with remnants of gilt enamel in evidence. On the base in underglaze blue is written the apocryphal four character kaishu mark of the 成化 Chenghua Emperor.
