Ming Red Dehua Censer

An almost identical bronze censer

A fine Ming Dehua bombe censer of classic form covered in a translucent persimmon red glaze which simulates the appearance of patinated bronze.  This type is often referred to as red Dehua ware.  The compressed bulbous body sits atop a splayed foot, rising to a slightly everted flat rim with opposing male lion-headed handles mounted on the shoulder. The footrim is covered in glaze except for the three spur marks where the censer sat on supports in the kiln.  Late Ming dynasty.
