17th C Dehua Libation Magnolia Cup

A Dehua libation cup of rhinoceros horn form applied with magnolia and prunus flowering branches that form an openwork base, covered in an ivory toned translucent glaze. P. J. Donnelly refers to this type of cup as the "Magnolia Cup" and he describes it as "perhaps the most characteristic product of Dehua". Circa 1640.
明代 Ming Dynasty, Chongzhen Period (1628-1644)
Height:  3 5/8" (9.2cm)  Length:  5 1/8" (13cm)  Width:  4 1/4" (10.8cm)
Condition: An area of the rim on one side ground extending approximately 2 1/2 inches (60mm).
