乾隆 Qianlong Celadon Garlic Head Bottle Vase (Suantouping)

An Imperial celadon glazed garlic head bottle vase (suantouping), the globular body finely carved with scrolling lotus flowers with feathery foliage above a band of ruyi lappets at the foot. The waisted neck encircled by a petal border bound by a raised rib. The bulbous mouth with lotus scrolls and feathery foliage below the slightly upraised lip. The elegantly arched ruyi head scepter-shaped handles emanating from the bulbous head surmounted by applied ruyi heads terminate in finely carved pendant bats.  The vase is glazed in a soft sea foam celadon hue to the body and base. On the bottom in underglaze blue written in zhuanshu script is the mark and period of Qianlong. There is a nearly identical vase from the Wah Kwong Collection that was exhibited in 1974 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong differing only in that it is covered with a sky blue (clair de lune) glaze.
